The Louisiana State University International Accelerator Program (IAP) is designed specifically for international students. We prepare students for academic, social and professional success at LSU and their future careers. The International Accelerator program is composed of the Undergraduate Accelerator Program (UAP), Master’s Accelerator Program (MAP), and Career Accelerator Program (CAP). Once the student completes the requirements of the IAP and meets LSU’s admission standards, he or she will matriculate into LSU as a full time student.

Terminology

Undergraduate Accelerator Routes

The Undergraduate Accelerator Program (UAP) that has three routes, or paths, for international, undergraduate students to complete the program. Each Accelerator Route begins at a different term in the program, and the entry point then determines a student’s total number of semesters in the program.  UAP students are placed into one of the following Accelerator Routes based on English-language level and other academic qualifications.

Extended Accelerator

  • IELTS 5.0 or TOEFL iBT 60
  • First Term: Foundation
  • Total IAP Semesters: 3

Academic Accelerator

  • IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 68
  • First Term: Bridge
  • Total IAP Semesters: 2

Integrated Accelerator

  • IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 79
  • First Term: Bridge
  • Total IAP Semesters: 2
Curricular Bands

UAP courses are organized according to three curricular bands. Regardless of their route, UAP students take courses from all three of the following curricular bands, but the specific courses in each band may differ:

  • Support: courses that introduce students to their new community
  • English: courses that provide English-language instruction by language level
  • General Education: LSU courses that provide foundational knowledge for later study
Credit Hours

After completing an UAP course, students may earn no credit hours, only UAP credit, or both UAP and LSU credit. For each course, the description lists how many UAP and LSU credit hours students will receive upon completion. Only LSU credits may be transferred to the university’s degree programs:

  • LSU Credit Hours: transferable credits that may be counted towards an LSU degree
  • UAP Credit Hours: non-transferable credits that count towards the completion of the UAP program, but not towards an LSU degree
