Below is a list of academic programs that have been created since the catalog’s initial online publication in March 2022.
CARBON CAPTURE, UTILIZATION AND STORAGE CONCENTRATION (PETROLEUM ENGINEERING)
(1S/2023 – CCUS)
Contact: Craft & Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering, 3207 Patrick F. Taylor Hall, 3304 South Quad Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70803. (225) 578-5215
Society has developed an intense desire/need to reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses emitted to the atmosphere and an essential aspect in in reducing those emissions is to utilize underground storage repositories. In order to do this however, projects need to be permitted and evaluated to ensure that what gets placed underground stays underground and does not cause harm to the drinking water aquifers or induce seismic events felt at the surface. Thus there is a need to develop engineers that are able to understand the process, risks and methods for performing safe and effective CCUS projects. This concentration allows our students to develop the marketable skills needed for doing CCUS safely and effectively in a manner that still allows their degree to be relevant for the broader oil and gas community should that be where their employment opportunities lie.
