LAW 5206 - International Petroleum Transactions Credit(s): 3 International petroleum transactions often raise issues under national and international law that affect both private and public interests. This course will examine sovereign rights to minerals, contracts with host governments, contracts between private companies engaged in international transactions, and the methods for resolving disputes regarding such rights and contracts. The course also will consider issues relating to: human rights, including the Alien Tort Claims Act and the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights; international environmental law; and anti-corruption laws, including the U.S.’s Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, other governments’ anti-corruption statutes, and the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative. This course will count in the Global/Comparative/Civil Basket
