LAW 5880 - Sex Crimes: Emerging Law and Policy Issues Seminar

Credit(s): 2
Why is sexual violence so prevalent, and why is it so difficult to prosecute sex crimes and hold perpetrators accountable?  Is the problem inadequate laws, inadequate policies, or something else?  This seminar tackles these questions while covering the theoretical, social, and legal implications of sexual violence.  It will examine the efficacy of legal intervention and how laws impact the lives of those who have survived sexual violence.  This seminar examines these issues in light of emerging discussions in society about sexual violence, and it will probe the question of how the legal system can improve its response to the high level of sexual violence that goes unpunished.  Because sexual violence is so common, even attorneys who do not intend to work specifically with survivors will find that many of their clients have been affected by sexual violence.
