The Louisiana State University International Accelerator Program (IAP) is designed specifically for undergraduate international students who choose to join the LSU Global program instead of direct LSU admission.  In addition to intensive English and academic learning pathways, this program provides enhanced acculturation student services.
Accelerator Routes

The International Accelerator Program (IAP) at LSU has three routes, or paths, for international, undergraduate students to complete the program. Each Accelerator Route begins at a different term in the program, and the entry point then determines a student’s total number of semesters in the program.  IAP students are placed into one of the following Accelerator Routes based on English-language level and other academic qualifications.

Extended Accelerator

  • IELTS 5.0 or TOEFL iBT 60 (PBT 497)
  • Total IAP Semesters: 3
  •

Academic Accelerator

  • IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 68 (PBT 520)
  • Total IAP Semesters: 2
  •

Integrated Accelerator

  • IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 79 (PBT 550)
  • Total IAP Semesters: 2
Curricular Bands

IAP courses are organized according to three curricular bands. Regardless of their route, IAP students take courses from all three of the following curricular bands, but the specific courses in each band may differ:

  • Support: courses that introduce students to their new community
  • English: courses that provide English-language instruction by language level
  • General Education: LSU courses that provide foundational knowledge for later study
Credit Hours

After completing an IAP course, students may earn no credit hours, only IAP credit, or both IAP and LSU credit. For each course, the catalog lists how many IAP and LSU credit hours students will receive upon completion. Only LSU credits may be transferred to the university’s degree programs:

  • LSU Credit Hours: transferable credits that may be counted towards an LSU degree
  • IAP Credit Hours: non-transferable credits that count towards the completion of the IAP program, but not towards an LSU degree
