The purpose of the Master of Science in Sport Management is to enable Louisiana State University to be a regional and national leader in the education and development of graduate students in the sport industry through a critical examination of both practical and academic applications of management principles. Through research, engagement, and an appreciation for interdisciplinary approaches, we will provide coursework, encourage volunteerism, promote intellectual achievement, and require high levels of competence to help prepare students for careers in the sport industry. The goals of the program are to develop students who are critical thinkers and inspirational leaders fully prepared for lives of service to their familiar, communities, and the greater global society.

Thirty-six credit hours at the graduate level must be earned. The curricular requirements include:

18 hours of Sport Management core courses.
12 hours of Sport Management electives.
6 hours of restricted research electives.

Note:

Students in non-thesis programs of study must pass a written comprehensive final examination that will be given by the student’s advisory committee and should be approximately three hours in length. Committee members will be solicited by the committee chair (the student’s advisory) for the questions. These questions will be compiled by the committee chair and given to the School of Kinesiology graduate secretary. The examination will be given on one day each semester and summer session; the date and time is set by the KIN Graduate Coordinator.
To pass the examination, the student must receive a “Pass” evaluation on the examination by the committee member responsible for that section. Should the student receive a “Fail” evaluation on any part of the examination, the student and the committee member(s) involved will set a date and time to administer re-taking that part of the examination (or equivalent) by the student. If the committee member evaluates the second attempt as “Fail”, then the whole committee will evaluate this part of the exam in conjunction with the other sections. The student must receive 2 “Pass” votes from the 3 committee members to pass the exam. Students failing to answer a question on the examination will not be permitted to pass the examination until a re-take has been completed.
