Interior Design, M.S.I.D.


Students holding a baccalaureate degree in interior design, interior architecture, architecture, landscape architecture, environmental design or closely related disciplines are eligible to apply for this program. Applicants from other disciplines are encouraged to apply; however, they may need to complete Interior Design leveling (foundation) courses before they can be fully admitted into the program.

The school-level academic course plan for each student will be developed in consultation with and approved by the student’s graduate advisory committee. The committee will include the student’s major advisor and at least two additional members of the graduate faculty such that the LSU Graduate School requirements for graduate committees are satisfied.

All students complete core coursework and self-directed research or research informed designed in an area of individual interest. The program offers two tracks leading to a Master of Interior Design. Students are required to identify a field of concentration in complete electives in their area of concentration.

 

Thesis Track: 24 credit hours of courses and 12 credit hours of ID 8000 Thesis Research   for a total of 36 hours. Students enrolled in this track. Identify a research topic and conduct basic or applied research culminating in a master’s thesis.

CORE COURSES - at least 9 credit hours (3 required courses)

ELECTIVES - 15 credit hours approved by the student’s advisory committee designed to support the student’s research goals. Students may enroll in ID 7007 Independent Study in Interior Design (3)  for one semester. 

THESIS -  6 credit hours repeated for a total of 12 credit hours.

 

Non-thesis Track: 24 credit hours of courses and 12 hours of ID 7900 Directed Design Project in Interior Design  for a total of 36 hours. Students enrolled in this track develop and execute a research-informed design investigation culminating in an oral presentation and final exhibit of research, process, design solution, and recommendations.

CORE COURSES - at least 9 credit hours (3 required courses)

ELECTIVES - 15 credit hours approved by the student’s advisory committee designed to support the student’s area of concentration. Students may enroll in ID 7007 Independent Study in Interior Design  and/or ID 7009 Advanced Internship in Interior Design  not to exceed a total of six credit hours. Credit hours from ID 7007  and ID 7009  contribute to the total number of required electives.

DIRECTED DESIGN PROJECT - 6 credit hours repeated for a total of 12 credit hours
