A 2+2 program is available between LSU and the LSUHSC School of Allied Health Professions which enables current LSU students to take the required prerequisite coursework needed to apply to these professional programs, and concludes at the LSUHSC School of Allied Health Professions wherein the clinical and professional training for the Bachelor of Science degree programs in Cardiopulmonary Science (respiratory therapy and cardiopulmonary sonography) and Clinical Laboratory Sciences (medical technology) are completed. Admission to these programs are made on a competitive basis; the completion of a program’s prerequisites does not guarantee admission into. Students are encouraged to work closely with the Pre-Allied Health advisor and other campus resources to adequately plan for the possibility of needing to select an alternative academic path if they are not selected.

The LSU School of Dentistry offers 2+2 programs in Dental Hygiene and Dental Laboratory Technology. A Bachelor of Science program is available in Dental Hygiene and an Associate of Science degree is available in Dental Laboratory Technology. Admission to these programs is on a competitive basis. The LSUHSC School of Public Health offers a 2+2 program for students interested in completing a Bachelor of Science in Public Health degree. Admission to this program is made on a competitive basis. Students are encouraged to work closely with the Pre-Public Health advisor and other campus resources to adequately plan for the possibility of needing to select an alternative academic path if they are not selected.

A 1+3 program is available between LSU and the LSUHSC School of Nursing, which enables current LSU students to complete the required 37 hours of prerequisite coursework needed to apply to the LSUHSC School of Nursing, at which time they may submit an application for admission to the LSUHSC School of Nursing where they will complete the remaining 3 years of clinical and professional training. This program operates on a selective-admission basis; the completion of the program prerequisites does not guarantee admission to this program. Students are encouraged to work closely with the Pre-Nursing advisor and other campus resources to adequately plan for the possibility of needing to select an alternative academic path if they are not selected.

Advising is available for the graduate degree programs offered through The LSU School of Allied Health Professions. These programs include Doctorate’s in Audiology and Physical Therapy, and Masters degrees in Clinical Rehabilitation & Counseling, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Speech-Language Pathology. The Allied Health advisor in University College serves as the University’s Allied Heath advisor. Advising services are open to all LSU students and designed to work in tandem with the completion of the undergraduate degree of your choice. Admission to these programs is competitive and requires that students first complete an undergraduate degree in addition to other prerequisite criteria. Preference for admission is given to Louisiana residents. Further information regarding any of the programs may be obtained from the Allied Health advisor in the Center for Advising & Counseling or from the appropriate institutions.

The programs of study are appropriate for the professional curricula indicated.

Distance Learning Programs Credit

University College students may enroll in Distance Learning Programs (DLP) courses with the approval of the University College executive director’s office. For guidance in the selection and enrollment of these courses, students should consult the “Continuing Education ” section of this catalog as well as DLP guidelines located in the catalog chapter of the senior college in which they expect to eventually enroll. These policies will be used to determine approval for enrollment.

Students may request an extension of time to complete a DLP course if they: 1) have not exceeded the maximum number of hours for enrollment for a regular semester or summer term, including DLP courses; 2) remain eligible to enroll at the university; and 3) continue their enrollment in University College.
